Notes/History

Despite all their power and assets at their disposal the four crime bosses who run the syndicate are not invulnerable. By the nature of their work they have gained many enemies, all of which would prefer to see the quartet eliminated. Joseph Voodoo was the first to realise that at a personal level he was not very well protected. An unsuccessful assassination attempt was enough to prove that. He therefore decided he needed someone to protect him and carry out personal “tasks” for him.

Deciding who to hire though was a problem so Voodoo decided to give the job to the person who could eliminate the assassin that had tried to kill him. Of all the people that took on the task it was the Black Mamba aka Karina Esposito that succeeded in the end. She had once worked as a government wet work operative and had become disillusioned with her masters. After she had tried to quite her job they had tried to kill her but they failed and Karina went dark.

Now regarded as a criminal by her own government Karina did not have a problem acting as one. When Voodoo put up his “challenge” to the criminal community she felt that was her way forwards and her efforts were rewarded by becoming his personal bodyguard and trained killer.

Notes/History

Xiofan Chui aka Yuenu is the Baron’s personal assassin/bodyguard. A one time assassin for hire, she soon gained a lot of interest from criminal groups that wanted her dead and a good deal of heat from international law enforcement agencies. Her only solution was to try and find protection within an organisation that could deal with such problems.

Black Shadow was the ultimate crime syndicate but they did not need her services. To prove them wrong she decided to target the Baron. Of all the big bosses he had no close protection. He did have his own security but they only did what they were paid to do. Nothing more, nothing less. This meant there were holes in his security. She thought that perhaps the Baron was so arrogant that he believed he was untouchable and so decided to prove him wrong, by breaking into his residence drugging him and kidnapping him.

To say the Baron was shocked to find himself wake up in a strange location was an understatement, but she had proved her point by exposing how vulnerable he could be. Sufficed to say he hired her on the spot. As well as acting as his bodyguard she is also trusted to deal with “personal” problems and make them go away. She also serves as his security consultant and is responsible for hiring and training the Baron’s personal security force.

She took her unusual code name from a legendary Chinese Swordswoman.

Notes/History

Mr Andrews is a person that according to all sources “does not exist”. He currently works as Mantis’s bodyguard/butler. Whilst it was considered that he could have been a refugee from the Breach Day event, information recently learned indicates that he had a past history with the Dice Man. The lack of any records would therefore point to him being part of a secret government agency. How he left and became a criminal bodyguard is open to speculation. The only thing CLEA does know for certain is that despite his size and shape he is not to be underestimated for Mr Andrews is a clinical efficient killer.

Notes/History

Often called “Babyface” due to his youthful appearance, Gianni is a lot older than he looks. An outright thug, he was part of the original Claremont Cartel before it collapsed. With that gone, he went off around the world and got involved in various criminal schemes before getting caught during a robbery and having to do a five year prison stretch.

Upon getting out, he heard that the Claremont Cartel was back. He therefore sought out Doug and asked if there was any work. As one of the few people he knew from the old days, Doug trusted him but knew he could not immediately give Gianni a high position right away or else his other “employees” might think there was favouritism and lose their respect. He therefore told Gianni that they need to play the long game and so put him in charge of collecting debts.

Those that failed to pay would have a finger cut off with a small axe hence her became the “Hatchet”. Once he gained a reputation there seemed few people would risk a late payment. In time after getting to know the bottom of the organisation Doug progressed him and had him running some of the money laundering operations. All that time he did this Gianni started to earn the respect of other Cartel members and gained their trust.

Finally with everything in place Gianni was named as Doug’s top lieutenant and put in charge of handling the Cartel’s operations when he was not around. Though some still thought that Gianni was getting special treatment, none would say it to his face.

  • Cassie has an unmodified version of the drug used on Trinity. She has lower strength but increased speed and stamina and tougher skin.
  • Helena has an Alpha ability that allows her to eject supercharged plasma.
  • Corinna stole a prototype bio suit that makes her body immune to most weapons. Suit self repairs upon being damaged

  • Corinna’s suit feeds of human “energy” to repair itself. If it sustains too much damage she can collapse due to the strain on her body.

  • Sabine has Raider nanobots in her body that has left her with a lack of emotions. She looks at tactics from a logical point of view and will abandon her team mates when the odds turn against her.

Notes/History

The Sister of Smite are loose team of five mercenaries. Separately they were very good at their “jobs” but frequently ended up competing with each other on the same jobs. After years of fighting each other they decided it was in their own interest if they actually worked together.

Though the intel is sketchy it is believed that Sabine Bourgoin  aka Scramble was once hired to bring in a Raider. Despite being prepared and managing to stun the Raider, when she went to drag it to her transport the  cyborg “awoke”. In the ensuing physical battle some of the Raider’s nanabots entered her body and started to alter her. The pain and shock that created allowed her target to get away.

Over the course of a few days the nanabots manifested themselves on the surface of her skin, creating circuit like patterns. This differs from all known nanobot infections where nothing like that has ever been recorded. Why Sabine was different is open to speculation but once the process was over, her brain had developed an increase in tactical awareness and boosted logic response at the expense of empathic emotions. The nanobots on her skin then allowed her to create a surface electric field which she learned was able to disrupt the electrical signals in a normal person and also able to generate and EM pulse for disabling electrical circuits.

Corianna is a thief, one of the best. Her current “state” is due to her breaking into a top secret weapons lab. After taking what she had been paid to collect she ended up looking into an area reserved for failed prototypes. Corianna did not know this at the time and happened upon an all over body suit that appeared to be made of really tough skin tight material. Thinking it could be useful she stole it.

After returning to her hideout she tried it on. Since no other clothing would fit underneath, the entire suit was completely in contact with her own skin. Once she zipped it up the suit triggered and glued itself to her body. She tried to take it off but it was too late. In time she would learn that the suit could protect her from many types of weapons but the project had been abandoned as it repaired itself by drawing from the hosts body.

Cassie was once an Army Ranger and very loyal to the service. She once volunteered for a medical trial that was supposed to increase the attributes of soldiers to make them superior combatants. At first the drug appeared to work quite well. The strength and stamina in the test subjects massively increased and at the same time their skin became super tough. Then it all started to go wrong for the test subjects were unable to maintain their emotions and developed violent tendencies and uncontrollable bursts of anger.

The scientist tried to purge the drug out of the test subjects but it was to no avail and so in a bid to cover up the experiment, the Army chose to imprison all of the test subjects. Cassie was one of the few with a better control over her emotional state and asked to be freed but to do so would expose the entire program so she was denied her request. She therefore spent months plotting a way to get out of the compound and eventually succeeded. Chased by the army and government agents who wanted to recapture her she  found her army training and her enhancements useful for dealing with them. Then when they finally gave in, instead of going to the press and exposing them, Cassie decided to make a career as a mercenary.

As is often the case, drug companies will often try to fix a past mistake and the same one behind the Army Rangers programme which had “created” Cassie and others, chose to try again, this time with sports people. Trinity, a professional but struggling power lifted volunteered for the programme since she needed money. When the drug was used on her it increased both her skin resistance, muscle mass and muscle density. Such enhancements meant she could no longer compete and when she demanded they fix her they could not. Instead they tried to silence her, which was a mistake as she crushed the two assassins sent to kill her via a deadly embrace which is where she acquired her code name.

Shocked at what she was done, she fled her apartment and went on the run figuring the police would be looking for her. Cassie though found her first. Having discovered the same drugs company that had altered her was at it again she had come looking for them, only to find the carnage left in Trinity’s wake. Together they tried to find the scientists responsible but by the time they got the information it was too late for the company had been shut down and was under investigation. As both were wanted by the authorities it seemed unwise to get noticed. Trinity though no longer had a life or a career so Cassie suggested she become a mercenary like her. This meant out of the five, these were the only two that were working together when the group formed.

The last member to join the group was Helena Leander. She is an Alpha with an ability to eject supercharged plasma. As far as the others were concerned she was actually a pay day. Helena had tried to hide her abilities and had no desires to be a hero. She wanted a normal life. This meant she was inexperienced and was therefore rather an easy target for Impervious, Scramble, Boa and Takedown. Subdued and in kept unconscious on their trip to person that hired them, each member of the group all expressed a feeling that something was a bit “off” with the  man.

Their suspicions turned out to be true when they discovered they had been working for the Broker who had wanted Helena’s DNA to add to Zorn’s collection. Once exposed the Broker, informed them that Helena would come to no harm but having been lied to they did not trust him and so refused to hand her over. When Helena came round the group decided to let her go, but she couldn’t as her idea of a normal life had been shattered. Fearing that others might want to come after her she asked if she could stay with them. Though the rest of the group did not like the idea of “babysitting” they could not turn her away either. In time she would prove her worth and become a valued member of the team.

Notes/History

Piper Hollister is one of a number of cases of missed opportunities. Before her Alpha abilities activated she actually worked for the Pacifica Police Department. By most respects that should have set her on course to become a White Guardian.

However she was actually attacked and raped by one of her male colleagues, another police officer. In shock after what had happened she was overwhelmed with feelings of guilt, that she had somehow brought the attack on herself. She also felt “dirty” and spend hours in the shower.

Returning to work the next day she was a shadow of herself and remained that way for a week until she finally confided in another female colleague. She provided Piper with support and so the pair of them went to see their Captain. Since there were no witnesses and she had got rid of any forensic evidence, the Captain suggested they handle the problem internally rather than having a failed trial getting bad publicity to the PPD. By now she was already in the transition phase of going from Alpha Inferior to Alpha Superior status, but her mind has been so muddled with what had happened that she did not even notice. Thinking that if a trial was doomed to fail Piper allowed the department to handle the problem. All that happened was her attacker apologised was suspended with pay for two weeks and then agreed to go on an anger management course.

When she heard that her attacker was in effect getting a paid holiday, she was filled with anger and it was that anger that triggered her Alpha abilities for the first time. Her attitude changed at work and she began to lose control of her emotions and argue with superiors. She ended up getting suspended herself only without pay. Now with a temper that refused to die, whilst at home she made good use of her time and started to experiment with her Alpha ability and learned exactly what she could do.

Her attacker was back at work before her so by the time she returned she was ready to inflict justice, her justice. Walking out of the lift and into the department she let rip, shooting an electrical bolt right at him. The Captain tried to call for help but she was on to that and disrupted the telephone system. Having stepped over the line she attacked any officer that approached and once she had finally had enough, Piper left the building only to be met by a squad of armed officers.

As they knew Piper was a fellow officer they tried to talk her down but she was way past the point of no return. Instead of targetting them she fired bolts at passing vehicles, disrupting their operating systems and turning them into rolling missiles. The carnage was massive and by the time the dust clear Piper had gone.

Her actions meant she had to go on the run but the criminal community noticed her and she soon got work as a mercenary. That though came at the cost of always being on the run. This finally ended when she performed her ultimate act of defiance and started working for Black Shadow as Danny “the Drill” Kendrick’s bodyguard.

Ironically her attacker would rape another woman and this time leave evidence but by then his conviction would not help Piper for she had already descended into darkness.

Despite her “adult name”, Clarissa Stokes should not be underestimated. Cast out from her own pack due to her violent tendencies she has chosen a life of crime as a means to survival and giving vent to her primal urges.

She seeks the thrill of the hunt and so will often work as a mercenary for high paying criminals who want someone found and is more inclined to do a job is that person needs to “be taught a lesson”. Like a domestic cat she enjoys playing with her prey so will often let a target go so that she can chase it down again, only finishing him or her when she gets bored.

Anyone that tries to interfere in her “fun” will often become a focus which is why some crime bosses will not hire her since they do not appreciate paying her to go after the wrong target. Despite her ability to lose focus though Clarissa is never without work.

As the daughter on a Demon male and human female, Athana is unusual as a Half Demon. Not only does her skin colour not change in her Demonic form but she gains a very old demonic trait of having a pair of wings which most Demons have lost.

Though created with an ability to seduce people, mainly men, Athana defied her father by simply choosing to have people for in love with her and not to turn them into followers for him. She liked the power it gave her and was amused at how she could make them do anything for her. To sustain that power through magic meant she needed to consume blood, but that was no problem. Her lovers would bring her what she needed.

About the one mistake she ever made was trying to seduce ever more powerful targets. It had become something of a challenge to her to make anyone bend to her will and she succeeded, right until she tried to seduce Kirkwood. It was a case of both not realising what the other was.

Unaware he was a vampire, Kirkwood was immune to her charms. He thought she was another vampire sent her to kill him because he could smell traces of blood on her. Kirkwood therefore pretended that he was enthralled. The intention was to lull her into a false sense of security and then when her defences were down, he would kill her.

As soon as he transformed to strike, she transformed and when they realised what the other was instead of heading off in opposite directions they chose to attack each other instead. Kirkwood could not be sure who the half Demon worked for and Athana wanted to kill him for daring to attempt to kill her. A master swordsman and warrior, Kirkwood managed to inflict serious damage on her and she was barely able to escape with her life.

Close to death, she headed to the one place she heard was “safe” for people “like” her. Though she would never have joined a group where she would have to share with others she was so desperate and in need of medical attention that she accepted their terms in exchange for help.

Despite sharing power as a member of the Elite, Athana has actually found that she enjoys the way the ordinary members treat her like a god. Though this occasionally means getting her hands dirty she finds it a small price to pay to maintain her ego.

Hahratmisiel is the child of two half demon parents. The unusual parentage has given him a unique colouration in his Demonic Form. Rather like a vampire he needs blood to survive and give him his strength.

His parents had both rejected their heritage and though they would not join the side of “good” they would not fight for “evil” either. However aware that their son was born with an incredible urge to hunt, his parents knew they had to prevent him from actually opening his mind to such urges. They thus stole blood from hospitals and vampire facilities alike in order to provided for him. They continued to do this even into his adulthood.

If is perhaps the fact they stole blood that led them to become targets. Although he never knew who was responsible, aged twenty four, both parents had been killed. Alone, at first he tried to steal blood in order to survive. His non violent ways though came to an end when a street gang saw his break into a building “on their patch”. To teach him a lesson they decided to beat him up to serve as a lesson. In the middle of the assault though the violence awakened his predator instincts and he transformed into his Demonic form and in seconds had killed them all.

Their blood tasted sweet to the demon side of him and from that moment in time he had a hard time keeping it under control. Realising that he would end up with the same fate as his parents, he tried to target people who would not be missed but knew that he needed to escape the cycle. Then when he learned of the Blood Clan, Hahratmisiel saw a way out.

Like the other Elite, he was welcomed amongst them and as part of the Clan he no longer had to kill to survive. The best part for him was that his desire to hunt was also provided for in that he could go after enemies of the Clan and would have the support of the other Elite.

Kabir once served the Vampire House da Silva as a Honoured Member. Having a good business acumen meant he was excellent at getting what the House wanted and when it wanted it and best of all through use of shell companies and third party trading the could keep everything well away from the law.

His biggest mistake was arrogance, thinking that nobody else could follow what he did. Therefore when he started to help lower ranking members of the House with side deals he was eventually exposed, albeit by someone want to climb the ranks who chose to expose Kabir. This was despite the fact he had only been trying to help those under the feet of the Elders have their lives made a little easier

Expelled from the House and left to fend for himself, he took all his contacts with him. However he had a hard time hunting humans because despite being a vampire he had been so accustomed to being supplied blood he had never actually had to kill. He was therefore in a sorry state when Natasha found him. Having learned of his legendary business skills, she needed Kabir to get the resources needed to the League of Blood to make her “organisation” viable. In return for his help she taught him how to hunt and made him a partner in the League, a position he has retained ever since.

Though not a strong warrior compared to other vampires, without him the League of Blood could not exist.
